Summer of 2023, during the Women's World Cup, I was bored, underemployed, and searching for an outlet for my thoughts. So, I built this website. Originally intended to become a sports journalism page, I posted articles abotu the World Cup & it's incredible players. Then I realized sports journalism was not the path for me. I have so much respect for the incredible people who cover sports, especially those who cover women's sports, so I will leave the true reporting to them. Now in April 2025, I am unemployed and once again bored, so I thought I'd bring this back, but a little differently. Now this site is going to be alot more about my random thoughts & a place to highlight the research projects I am working on. Brainstorming for my grad school capstone has me thinking about a lot, and I want to do some digging into all of them!
Ok now before we dive in, I guess I should give you some background on who I am & why I am here.
I am a fan first. I didn't play sports past the start of middle school because I was just straight up bad. However, I've spent my entire life as a fan. My first sports love was the San Antonio Spurs. My grandpa had season tickets during the best era, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker coached by the legend himself Gregg Popovich. That turned into learning about the San Antonio Stars, and my first female sports idol, Becky Hammon. If you ever see a Becky Hammon Stars jersey on eBay please let me know because it's the one jersey I have always wanted & never found.
Then I moved to Ohio & fell away from women's sports, there were no teams nearby to follow and life happened. But I didn't forget they existed, I followed during the Olympics, but was ususally at summer camp during the World Cup. It wasn't until my junior year of college that I found them again. I'll save that long story for another time.
For the really important info: who are my teams? Well if you've seen my BlueSky you probably already know but I'll lay them out for you here too.
NWSL:
Angel City FC - their inaugural season was when I was getting back into women's sports. I chose to follow them because of Christen Press, a player I had always admired. She was one of the few women's soccer players I really payed attention to. We were not a soccer family.
WNBA:
Las Vegas Aces - the San Antonio Stars franchise was sold and moved to Vegas so I moved with them! And of course when Becky Hammon was hired as their head coach I was really all in.
PWHL:
Boston Fleet - when the six inagural PWHL teams were announced I was unsure of who I should cheer for. I had no connection to any of the cities, no hometown team, & I really couldn't decide. Jokingly while talking to my roommate (a Sirens fan from NYC), I said, "I should pick Boston because the Mewis sisters are from there." And for some reason that stuck. So now I am a Fleet fan!
WSL: Chelsea W FC - I am a huge Sam Kerr & Catarina Macario fan , so it was an easy pick when I decided to get into the WSL in 2023. I know, I know we're really good, but I promise if they ever end up getting bad, I'll stick around.
PVF:
Columbus Fury - I don't really follow volleyball but being able to cheer for a women's team from Ohio is a rare occurrence so I will be rooting for them all the way.
College sports:
University of South Carolina - I didn't go to a sports school, but my sister went to USC, so it makes sense. And come on it's hard to root against the Lady Gamecocks & especially Dawn Staley!
As new leagues & teams pop up, any Ohio team will win my heart automatically, and after that I will probably go for Boston or whatever the vibes are.
If you made it this far, thank you! I am going to try and be active on here at least once a week to talk about the thoughts, feelings, & things going through my mind. I am excited to see where this goes and what it becomes. If you want to read along, please do! You can check out what I've written so far or stick around to see what's next. The choice is yours! At the end of the day I am doing this for me & sharing it all with you.
